Euro 2024: Predicting each group stage result

Welcome back to my blog, and yes, I am posting three articles in a row within a day. I realised that I had predicted the scorelines and more for each knockout game, but had not done so yet for the group stage. Therefore, i will be predicting each group stage match of Euro 2024. Do note that I am using my results from the Euro 2024 Match Predictor game so they may not completely align with my previous group stage predictions. Having said that, let’s dive straight into it!

Matchday 1

Germany vs Scotland: 3–0 (Havertz, Fullkrug, Musiala)

Germany should start this group off with a bang, winning by a margin of 3 goals against a lacklustre Scotland. Havertz will open up the scoring with the first goal of the Euros, followed by Champions League finalist Fullkrug and starboy Musiala.

Hungary vs Switzerland: 2–1 (Embolo;Sallai,Szoboszlai)

Hungary will begin their Euro campaign with a win, coming back from being 1–0 down due to a Breel Embolo goal to winning 2–1 via goals from Sallai and Szoboszlai

Spain vs Croatia: 2–1 (Morata, Olmo; Majer)

Spain will assert their dominance over this group early on, winning comprehensively against Croatia through Morata and Olmo goals. Majer will grab a consolation goal late in the match, which could prove crucial for Croatia’s goal difference and qualifying for the knockouts.

Italy vs Albania: 2–0 (Chiesa,Dimarco)

This game should be a walk in the park for Italy, as they win from a Chiesa opener and Dimarco screamer, keeping a clean sheet along the way.

Poland vs Netherlands: 0–1 (X.Simons)

This match will be a boring one, with Xavi Simons grabbing the first and only goal to win the Netherlands the game.

Slovenia vs Denmark: 2–2 (Hojlund,Wind;Sesko,Cerin)

Slovenia will provide us with a classic shock result, drawing with a highly favoured Denmark 2–2 to clinch a crucial point and prevent Denmark from topping the group. Hojlund will open the scoring, followed by the two Slovenia goalscorers, before Wind scores the equaliser around the 70th minute mark.

Serbia vs England: 1–3 (Saka,Kane, Palmer;Vlahovic)

England will absolutely blow Serbia out of the water, with Saka opening the Three Lions’ scoring followed by Kane and a reply from Vlahovic. Finally, Palmer will come on in place of Saka to clinch his first goal for England in a major tournament.

Romania vs Ukraine: 0–2 (Malinovskyi,Dovbyk)

Ukraine should absolutely batter Romania in this match, with goals from Genoa midfielder Malinovskyi and La Liga top scorer Artem Dovbyk securing the win for the Yellow and Blue.

Belgium vs Slovakia: 2–1 (Trossard,Lukaku;Bozenik)

Belgium should also clinch a relatively easy win against Slovakia, with Trossard starting the party for Belgium. Lukaku would join it soon after, followed by a Bozenik goal which came too late.

Austria vs France: 1–2 (Mbappe brace; Sabitzer)

France should secure a win against Austria. Mbappe will produce a generational performance by scoring two goals, and Sabitzer’s goal will be firmly sandwiched between Mbappe’s brace.

Turkey vs Georgia: 2–1 (Kokcu,Aktürkoğlu;Mikautadze)

Turkey will begin their redemption arc after a horrific Euro 2021 by clinching a win against Georgia through goals by Kokcu and Akturkoglu, while Georgia get a goal through Metz’s Mikautadze.

Portugal vs Czechia: 3–0 (Fernandes,Jota,Ronaldo)

An outstanding Portugal win is on the cards here, as Fernandes, Jota and Ronaldo will all score to thump Czechia 3 goals to zip.

Matchday 2

Germany vs Hungary: 2–1 ( Fullkrug, Wirtz;Sallai)

Matchday 2 will be started off by another Germany win through goals from Fullkrug and Wirtz. However, Hungary will contribute to their goal difference with a goal from attacking midfielder Sallai.

Scotland vs Switzerland: 2–1 (Amdouni;Adams, McTominay)

Scotland shall clinch a historic win in this match, with goals from striker Che Adams and midfielder McTominay allowing them to stage a comeback after an early Amdouni goal.

Croatia vs Albania: 2–0 (Kramaric,Modric)

Croatia will keep their first clean sheet of the tournament, and score twice to pick up 3 crucial points.

Slovenia vs Serbia: 2–1 (Sesko brace;Mitrovic)

Slovenia will follow up their sensational draw with a shock win against Serbia, as Benjamin Sesko will show his talents through an outstanding brace. Mitrovic will prove that Saudi Arabia isn’t simply a graveyard for footballers as he continues his rich vein of form with a goal for Serbia.

England vs Denmark: 2–1 (Skov Olsen;Kane,Foden)

England will nearly bottle this game, as they will switch off momentarily to allow winger Skov Olsen to score in the first half, but will come back and score twice to win the game.

Spain vs Italy: 2–1 (Olmo,Yamal;Frattesi)

This game will be one for the ages, as Olmo and Yamal bag two crucial goals to beat Italy, whose solitary goal will come from Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi.

Slovakia vs Ukraine: 0–2 (Dovbyk,Zinchenko)

Ukraine will continue their winning streak, as Dovbyk will add yet another goal to his tally and Zinchenko popping up with a goal from left wing-back.

Poland vs Austria: 1–2 (Gregoritsch,Baumgartner;Lewandowski)

Poland will slump to yet another defeat, losing to an invigorated Austria via goals from Gregoritsch and starlet Baumgartner, followed by a futile goal from Robert Lewandowski, potentially his last in major international tournaments.

Netherlands vs France: 1–3 (Giroud, Mbappe, Dembele; Depay)

France will obliterate Netherlands in this match-up, scoring thrice against a depleted Dutch side as Mbappe stakes his claim for the golden boot. Depay will also bag a goal to impress future employers at club level.

Georgia vs Czechia: 0–0

This will be the only goalless match for the entire matchday. Boringgggg. Next!

Turkey vs Portugal: 1–2 (Leao,Jota;Calhanoglu)

Portugal will grab a tight win against a decent Turkey side, as a Calhanoglu screamer will be just after a Leao opener and before a Jota winner.

Belgium vs Romania: 4–0 (Lukaku brace,Kevin De Bruyne,Trossard)

Belgium will prove that their golden generation still have a bit of flair in them, smashing 4 goals past the poor Romanian keeper as Lukaku puts on a show to attract potential buyers.

Matchday 3

Scotland vs Hungary: 0–0

The second and hopefully last 0–0 game in the Euros. This point will be crucial for both teams qualifying. Next!

Germany vs Switzerland: 3–0 (Musiala, Wirtz,Füllkrug)

Germany will breeze past a demoralised Swiss side to top the group with 9 points. Goals from Musiala, Wirtz and Fullkrug will be complimented by a clean sheet to boost the Germans’ morale even further!

Italy vs Croatia: 2–1 (Scamacca,Raspadori;Kramaric)

Italy will qualify for the knockouts in second place with this win, booking their spot through goals from Scamacca and Raspadori. Kramaric’s goal, however, will boost the Croatians’ goal difference and help them qualify for the knockouts despite finishing third.

Albania vs Spain: 0–3 (Morata, Yamal, Rodri)

Spain will easily top the group on 9 points as well, as Morata and Yamal grab yet another goal while Rodri adds himself to the list of goalscorers to round off a smooth-sailing group stage for the Spanish.

France vs Poland: 4–1 (Mbappe, Dembele, Griezmann brace ;Milik)

France will demolish Poland 4–1, sending Poland home bottom of the group while qualifying top with 3 wins too.

Austria vs Netherlands: 2–1 (Arnautovic,Gregoritsch;Frimpong)

Austria will smash and grab a shock win against the Dutch, with veteran Arnautovic opening the scoring followed by striker Gregoritsch’s second goal of the tournament. Frimpong will score a consolation goal which will prove quite handy to the Dutchmen’s qualification hopes despite finishing third in the group.

Denmark vs Serbia: 3–0 (Hojlund,Eriksen,Damsgaard)

Denmark will have a field day against Serbia, with Hojlund scoring his second goal of the tournament while his midfield teammates Eriksen and Damsgaard get themselves a goal each too. Serbia, meanwhile, will be feeling quite miserable as they crash out bottom of the group.

England vs Slovenia: 3–1 (Kane,Bellingham,Watkins;Sesko)

England will provide us with a statement 3–1 win against Slovenia. Despite Sesko getting yet another goal, goals from Kane, Bellingham and Watkins will ensure England finish top of the group with 3 easy wins. However, Slovenia will finish third and wiggle their way into qualification with 3 points.

Ukraine vs Belgium: 1–1 (Dovbyk;Witsel)

This should be quite the boring game, but Belgium will finish top of the group and Ukraine will finish second thanks to the singular point secured from the draw.

Slovakia vs Romania: 2–0 (Lobotka, Tupta)

Slovakia will unfortunately not make it past the group stage despite a win in their last match, but the Slovakian fans should feel quite motivated with goals from Lobotka and Tupta securing them a straightforward win.

Turkey vs Czechia: 1–0 (Guler)

Turkey will clinch second place through this tight win, with Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler justifying the hype with a vital goal.

Portugal vs Georgia: 3–0 (Jota,Bernando Silva,Ramos)

Finally, Portugal should bang in 3 goals against Georgia, with Jota adding yet another goal to his tally while Silva and Ramos get their first goal of the tournament. This astounding win will confirm Portugal’s top spot finish and place in the Round of 16.
